Almost there and thank you Ecosia

Ecosia and community generosity

In 2017 a small handful of us started on a journey to protect a heritage landscape in Lewisham, a woodland tucked behind Buckthorne Road in Brockley. The site was viewed as wasteland, a dumping ground and it has been treated appallingly under the management of a property developer ever since.

5 years later and the landscape of Gorne Wood now has the highest protections. We’ve created a beautiful nature reserve next door to the privately managed site of Gorne Wood (the Buckthorne Nature Reserve) and now there’s over 700 of us investing in the future of these precious trees.

Thanks to a donation of £10,000 by Ecosia, a search engine that plants and protects trees on biodiversity hotspots around the world, we have reached £81,000 of the £100,000 needed to buy Gorne Wood via a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) process. Thanks to Sophie, Jade, Martha and the team at Ecosia for the donation and drawing attention to our campaign. Thanks also to all those who have donated so generously so far.

Once the woodland is safe again we can then start on phase two, clearing the rubbish, restoring habitats, planting trees, properly securing the site etc…

We have a few days left of the campaign and every penny counts. Please help us get to 100K and get us over the finishing line.

Best wishes

The Fourth Reserve
