The actual physical maintenance and site management at the Buckthorne Cutting Nature Reserve and the other sites is done by a fantastic and dedicated team of people and conservation groups.

Anna-Maria
Co founded the Fourth Reserve Charity in 2018, Anna-Maria is experienced in charity management, community development work and leading educational projects for children and young people.

Founder & Site Manager
Nicholas
Co-founded the Fourth Reserve charity in 2018 to help protect the Buckthorne Cutting. Experienced in green space management and horticulture/education with young people with additional needs.

Plum Orchard Lead
Pam
Pam looks after the plum orchard and as an experienced lead in charity work gives her time to help with charity governance.

Fox Rescuers
Susann & Curro
Susann and Curro live in Nunhead and volunteer locally as fox and wildlife rescuers. Foxes have a temporary home at Buckthorne for care and treatment.

Swetha
Swetha supports Open Days through creative workshops and often helps with site volunteering.

Tommy Radclyffe-Thomas
Tommy moved to Crofton Park in the late 1990’s and raised a family in the local area. He retired in 2020 after 31 years at a major International Bank where he worked in risk management and financial planning.
Since retiring he has been getting on with all those “I’ll get round to that one day” things on the to-do list and spending volunteering at the Buckthorne Cutting Nature Reserve.

Susie Rabin
Susie has lived in Lewisham for the last 20 years. She is passionate about the local area, improving the environment for people and improving biodiversity. Susie is the Associate Director of Communications and Public Affairs for the Royal Society of Biology.
For the last 7 years she was Trustee for the Campaign for National Parks and supported the staff team to improve the biodiversity of our protected landscapes and increase access to national parks particularly for deprived communities.

Wendy Bishop
A local parent, and scout leader with the 3rd Crofton Park Scouts. Wendy is a qualified architect specialising in Passivhaus and embodied carbon

Community, Education and Heritage
Dr. Katherine Hughes
Katherine is a local parent who has lived in south London for over 20 years. She is a museum professional who worked at the London Transport Museum, and the Museum of London and Art UK.
Katherine created new local history/ ecology displays for a micro-museum in New Cross Gate Cutting about the Great North Wood and is interested in Buckthorne Cutting and Gorne Wood as a historic environment and believes that local heritage landscapes can re-enchant our lives and help in creating a sustainable future.

Communication, Community and Education
Yael Biran
Yael is a local Mum and started as a volunteer before becoming a trustee. Passionate about SEND and inclusion she led the ‘Get across’ campaign to get a local school ‘Prendergast Ladywell’ a safe crossing.
Besides that she is a freelance seniot animator and a lapsed, not very knowledgeable, twitcher.

Ruth Bradshaw
Ruth lives in Brockley, works in environmental policy and has been a regular conservation volunteer and citizen scientist for nearly 15 years. She draws on her professional expertise and volunteering experiences to write creative non-fiction which highlights the value of urban nature.

Media and Fundraising
Laura Cardos
Laura moved to this neighbourhood over ten years ago, after many years living in the former-USSR and the USA. She has raised her family here, and discovered the Fourth Reserve through her children’s involvement in the forest school, which has been incredible, especially through the experience of the pandemic.
In her former work as a BBC correspondent, Laura reported on environmental disasters and campaigns in other countries. It’s clear to her that the story of Gorne Wood is one that captivates many people’s imaginations.

Communication and media
Daniel is experienced in broadcast and video production. He makes creative videos that capture events and activities at the nature reserve.
His photography is also used in media pieces to promote our work.

Flora is a travel writer and author and runs award winning website 'Flora the Explorer’. She has written for a range of publications including the Independent and the National Geographic.
